C.S. Lewis is speaking in context of Jesus' Gethsemane.
The factor he makes is that Jesus could not have recognised that the cup might pass from Himself and at the same time regarded it would not. Anxiety's like that. Having a hope that isn't a wish in any respect, just like the stay of execution, doesn't help at all, due to the fact though we'd realise we haven't any hope, we can not help but good buy - having wish whilst we certainly should not. They're fleeting mind that ruin through into our revel in whilst existence is unpalatable. They tease, due to the fact they offer some thing unreal, until, this is, we consciously see the fallacy.
As Christians, as with many that might also have any other faith, as with all and sundry absolutely, we do have mini Gethsemane moments all the time. None of us is automatically below the chance of death, like Jesus became, however none folks is aware of the time of our death. Jesus did. If we had been at Gethsemane we might have an inkling that we were approximately to be arrested, but we would not recognize as Jesus did that we have been on a collision path with loss of life.
We stay lives which are, through their nature, unsure. As Lewis put it, to "stay in a fully predictable global is not to be a person."
Anxiety can not be a sin as in a lack of faith. It is a long way too not unusual to human experience to be relegated as such.
Besides, anxiety, like any mental trials and contamination, is simply so complicated. We can not even contemplate supporting someone, now not least ourselves, unless we realize fully all the subtleties of the man or woman lifestyles. And doing this is no imply feat!
